Eligibility

Who is eligible for the Solar Electricity Grant?

The scheme is administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and pays a once-off grant towards the purchase and installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels for your home. To qualify, you must:

  • Be the owner of a home that was built and occupied before 2021
  • Use new materials and products that are not already covered under another grant scheme
  • Use a registered company from the SEAI's list of registered installers
  • Have the electrical works completed by a Safe Electric Ireland electrician
  • Apply to ESB Networks for connection to the electricity distribution system using the ESB Networks NC6 form — your registered installer does this before the system is fitted
  • Have a Building Energy Rating (BER) carried out after the work is completed

Avoiding delays

Four steps to a smooth approval

Most refused or stalled claims come down to paperwork. We handle these four steps with you from the start.

01

Accurate and complete documentation

Every document is filled in and checked before submission — your details, the technical specifications of the system and the rest of the paperwork. Accuracy is what prevents delays.

02

Choose an SEAI-registered installer

Working with an SEAI-registered installer such as DMP Energy from the outset avoids the common pitfalls, because the application is prepared alongside the installation.

03

Submit a detailed application

A complete application reduces queries from the grant authority and speeds up approval. We set out the scope of the work clearly so nothing has to be chased.

04

Observe deadlines

Grant offers have a validity period. Book the work early enough and install in time, and the funding is secured without last-minute scrambling.

Grant rates

How much grant can you get for solar electricity?

The grant is paid on a pro rata basis per kilowatt peak (kWp) of installed solar capacity. A kWp measures the maximum power output of a system under standard conditions — in short, the size of the array you install determines what you receive.

System size Grant payable How it is worked out
1kWp €800 €800 × 1kWp
2kWp €1,600 €800 × 2kWp
3kWp €1,850 (€800 × 2kWp) + (€250 × 1kWp)
4kWp or above €2,100 (€800 × 2kWp) + (€250 × 2kWp), capped
Worked example

3kWp system

€800 for each of the first two kWp, plus €250 for the third: (€800 × 2) + (€250 × 1) = €1,850.

Worked example

4kWp system

€800 for each of the first two kWp, plus €250 for each of the next two: (€800 × 2) + (€250 × 2) = €2,100.

For the first 2kWp of installed capacity you receive €800 per kWp. For every additional kWp up to 4kWp you receive €250. The total Solar PV grant is capped at €2,100.
